Meet your hosts

So you’d like to know a bit more about us? Sure, let’s fill you in.

We’re Marcus and Ryan, owners of The Cottages at Blackadon Farm. We bought the farm in late 2019 and started a renovation programme that’s now complete. Both of us love a challenge, and boy, did this prove to be a good one!

Ryan was brought up in Devon about 45 minutes away from Blackadon and always knew that he’d like to return home at some point.

Marcus visited Devon for his summer holidays every year as a kid and has lots of happy memories from his childhood.

We’ve both visited around 140 countries for business and pleasure. We always found that holidays helped us to relax, create memories and taking part in new experiences broaden our horizons. At The Cottages at Blackadon Farm, we’ve brought our memories and experience from travelling into creating what we hope sets the standard for the future of self-catering in Devon and further afield.

When we visited places, the most important things in accommodation were being able to have a superb sleep, head and hand held showers and being able to stay connected with family and friends. You’re guaranteed these when you stay with us and will come across lots of little touches that make life easier.

Reviews on Tripadvisor, Google Reviews, Freetobook and the recommendation section of our Facebook page are always welcome. Feedback helps us understand what we’re doing well and how we can continue developing the farm in future. Our reviews often mention us (and our miniature donkeys) and we sometimes find ourselves blushing.

The most important things for us are help our guests create memories by making the most of their accommodation, Dartmoor National Park and South Devon. We set high standards for ourselves and our team members share our goals. Being sustainable runs through everything we do – and who says being sustainable and ecologically minded needs to be code for an economy offering? We believe it can provide a premium, more pleasing end to end holiday for our guests.

Being part of our community is crucial. We’re responsible to nature, our nearby village and believe in supporting local businesses. In addition to setting out a plan to make sure we thrived following COVID-19, we having been using our business experience to support other start-ups by providing consulting on HR, communication and marketing issues, as well as mentoring and coaching. Both of us volunteered three days a week from the start of the COVID-19 vaccination programme and this has led to Ryan running the programme 40 hours a week for the South Hams. Marcus continues to help by providing admin support at the area vaccination centre too. This is a way we can help reopen our business fully and support the rebounding of the UK economy.

If you’ve stayed with us already – thank you. If you’re planning a trip – we can’t wait to see you. As a small business, each and everyone of our guests is important to us. We’ll always do a little dance when we get a new booking. We’ll always do best to help you have a great time.
