It’s official. Devon is officially the best place to holiday in England and Dartmoor is the best thing to see during your stay.
The Telegraph newspaper has done lots of number crunching across 33 criteria over 4 categories to find the best place to holiday in England. The criteria focused on natural wonders such as lakes, forests, mountains, beaches; history and culture including museums, castles, cathedrals; luxuries like hotels, spas, restaurants; and peace and quiet – considers population density, dark skies. The counties were then polled on twitter to get the public’s view.
And you’ve guessed it. Devon came top by a long way.
And that’s not all. It was declared that the holiday highlight is Dartmoor National Park, a mythical world of Bronze Age hut circles, remote hamlets, ancient glades and open moors.
We think Devon is Heaven. The assessment gave us lots of points for having two national parks and five Areas Of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We’re home to 13 Blue Flag beaches and have 495kms of coast. For birders, there are nine RSPB reserves, an RHS garden and 10 per cent of the country is woodland.
Devon has 177 museums and galleries, 34 National Trust listings, 13 English Heritage properties, and close by in Exeter – a cathedral and a Premiership Rugby team.
So, when you holiday with us, you’re officially staying in England’s best country and you don’t have to travel to the highlight, because we’re on it.
