Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and 2023 Offers

Where has the year gone? 2022 has flown faster than Santa’s sleigh.

2022 has been an incredibly special year.

After a couple of years with covid restrictions, 2022 has been the first year that we’ve been able to open every day of the year.

We’ve been happy to see lots of familiar faces and new guests too. It’s also been great to welcome lots of new retreats and corporate bookings too.

We are thrilled that you have chosen to stay with us in our one, two, three, five and 10 bedroom cottages.

Read on to find out about special offers for 2023.

A year of wins

During 2022, The Cottages at Blackadon Farm became the most awarded self-catering accommodation in Devon and the South West. Visit Devon gave us the Gold Award for self-catering accommodation of the year, and we then went on to receive the same accolade at the South West Tourism Awards for Excellence.

Recognising the role we played in the community during COVID, we received a special Silver tourism award for Resilience & Innovation.

We became the first tourism business in the area to receive a Gold award from Green Tourism, reflecting our ethos about being stewards for Dartmoor – the place where we live, work and welcome guests.

Onwards and upwards!

What’s new?

New – Kids activities

This year, in addition to getting to meeting our miniature donkeys, we’ve introduced kids colouring sheets, nature spotting guides and occasional pop-up crafting activities with Mrs O in da Shed. They’ve been proving popular. We leave stuff for the little ones in cottages during school holidays.

You’ll also find a lovely illustrated map in the cottages, a sculpture trail for kids and handcrafted flower cart for those perfect Instagram photos and tik tok videos.

New – improved The Den

In addition to table tennis, we’ve upgraded The Den to include a snooker table, large garden games, board games, puzzles and comfortable seating. We set The Den up with this stuff for school holidays.

At other times of the year, the space is prepared for other kinds of groups we host. The Den is used for yoga, pilates, stretching, sound baths and immersive light therapies.

To top it off, the space sparkles with 100’s of fairy lights and you can look through the virtual 3D windows we’ve installed on the walls

New – getting greener

We’ve continued our green journey. Additions this year include double glazing throughout, Nest heating devices that auto learn trends in the cottages, replacing and introducing a special air-circulation system in The Great Barn that extracts warm air from the bathrooms and kitchen and helps keep the rest of the place warmer in winter and cooler in summer.

The woodland walk received an overhaul, additional bird boxes were added around the farm and garden furniture replaced which is made from locally sourced, recycled plastic. If you liked our old wood garden furniture, the local pub as upcycled it.

We were also proud to be asked by Visit Dartmoor to lead a project to create a new sustainability pledge and identify their areas of focus for the next three year.

New – more than a lick of paint

Reflecting our high standards, repainting has taken place in all cottages during 2022, even though we only renovated in 2020. We’re also undertaking additional painting and decorating over the winter months when cottages aren’t occupied.

New – better access

We’ve resurfaced the car park and private road that runs around the farm. It looks super and created an additional six spaces. The resurfacing also makes it easier for wheelchair users and folks with visual impairments to move between the Great Barn and guest lawn.

New – all cottages are dog friendly

Regardless of which cottage you choose to stay in, they’re all dog friendly. Your four-legged friend will love it here as much as you do.

And if you’re celebrating…

Take the stress out of arranging a celebration. Dartmoor Larder continues to be popular with groups, we can get amazing cakes made a fantastic baker and the local golf club café offers special deals for our guests.
